A hearty appetizer, the local soup is made with lentils, barley and black beans together in a mutton broth. The mixture of ingredients makes for an interesting combination of textures and great flavor.

In Skardu, Pakistan, we tried a unique dish: chicken muskoot. The pieces of chicken are in a thick almond flavored sauce and garnished with parsley. Very tasty!

One of Skardu’s food staples is their locally fried trout with french fries. The fish is lightly seasoned with spices and batter. The french fries are pretty standard; simply freshly cut and deep fried.

We enjoyed this dish at the Dehwan-E-Khas Restaurant, which is located just off the main road of Skardu on Raja Road.
