Outdoor rock climbing by Kuala Lumpur involves a lot of sweat and possibly some misquotes. It also means some great limestone rock walls along the Batu Caves region, located about 45mins outside of the city center. While we were in Malaysia, we checked out the climbing scene at Batu Caves including the popular Nyamuk crag.
Alternatively, you can climb indoors at Camp 5 in the 1 Utama Mall. It’s Asia’s largest rock climbing gym! This facility houses a good gear shop, specializing in what seemed like Mammut, Black Diamond, prAna and Evolv gear.

While we were visiting, there was a huge Hindu celebration called the Thaipusam Festival, which brought in about a million people so you can imagine how packed and chaotic it was. It was an interesting experience!
We only managed to get a small photo of Lord Murugan but you really have to see it in person to realize how impressive the 42.7m tall statue is.

We got a taste of urban and techy civilization after we landed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Immediately, we hit the malls in seek of free wifi and air conditioning. We got just that at the Suria KLCC and 1 Utama malls…we also got lost because they were so big. It was glorious!
