We arrived in the Hunza region in northern Pakistan eager to try chapsuro, which is considered the area’s meat pie / pizza specialty. After a few weeks of travel nurished by the typical Pakistani diet consisting of curry, daal, and potatoes, it was refreshing to try some unique northern dishes!
Typically, a chapsuro consists of flour wrap filled with a mix of green onions, green chilies, tomatoes, coriander, salt, and meat. We tried three kinds of chapsuro from three different restaurants in Karimabad. They were each about 200 Rupees, which is less than $3 USD, but still pricey for Pakistan.
Chicken Chapsuro from Hotel Hunza Embassy
Maria savoured this one with its organic mix of vegetables and white chicken.
Beef Chapsuro from Hidden Paradise Restaurant
Gabe was thoroughly satisfied with the simple but large portion of meat in this one.
Vegetarian Chapsuro from Mulberry Inn
We thought these thinner vegetarian chapsuros were the sweet Hunza equivalent of a Mexican quesadilla!
